Goodbye and Thank You Mr.Wong

Orientation Day of the Department. All the professors, well dressed, had their seats in the first and second row in a big lecture theatre.

They all looked confident and successful, especially those gave speeches on stage, with fluent English, trying to show their sense of humor and easiness.

During the introduction, a Mathematics Professor was introduced as “famous”, well known in the TV for the admission of a 9-year-old boy. He is tall, with a smile, in a nice suit.

He reminds me a teacher who is a Mathematics genius, the one who love to shave his head, wear T shirts, smile happily all the times.

I don’t know what would he achieve if he spend himself in academic domain.

However, he stayed in one secondary school for his whole life, teaching boys what he called the art of Mathematics, playing chess and bridge with little ones in canteen, asking if he is requesting too many resources for students, and although afternoons and evenings were burnt away in 1 to 1 remediation, he blamed himself hardly on public examination results……an angel with broken wings.

I can never forget he listed his weaknesses and gave thanks to his students with great sincerity and happiness in the graduation dinner. Great contrast with those professors, this genius is, humble and grateful.

Goodbye and Thank You Mr.Wong.
