應課程要求看的一本書,小時看的中譯本全無印象,現在,可能真的有點old了,感覺像跟主角一樣,駕著小舟、獨自在遠洋中跟大魚搏鬥了幾天:專注、疲累、空洞。
The old man’s head was very old though and with his eyes closed there was no life in his face.
Why did they make birds so delicate and fine as those sea swallows when the ocean can be so cruel?
‘But man is not made for defeat, ‘ he said. ‘A man can be destroyed but not defeated.’
Everything kills everything else in some way. Fishing kills me exactly as it keeps me alive.
Fish that you were. I am sorry that I went too far out. I ruined us both.
He was asleep when the boy looked in the door in the morning. The boy saw that the old man was breathing and then he saw the old man’s hands and he started to cry.
Maybe I also went too far out.
